NAIDOC Week 2024

Jul 3, 2024

NAIDOC Week (National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee) occurs annually in July, and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians all over the country and overseas.

NAIDOC Week 2024 is from July 7 to July 14. During this time, we celebrate and recognize the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The theme for 2024 is “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud”, honouring the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture, with fire symbolizing connection to Country, each other, and rich traditions

Your office can actively participate in NAIDOC Week by:

  • Acknowledging Country: Begin meetings or events with an acknowledgment of the traditional custodians of the land where the office is located. This shows respect for Indigenous culture and connection to the land.
  • Learning and Sharing: Encourage staff to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture, and achievements. Share educational resources, books, or documentaries related to Indigenous issues.
  • Supporting Indigenous Businesses: Procure goods and services from Indigenous-owned businesses. This promotes economic empowerment and sustainability within Indigenous communities.
  • Attending Events: Attend local NAIDOC Week events, workshops, or cultural activities. It’s a great way to connect with Indigenous communities and learn firsthand.
  • Fundraising: Organize fundraising events to support Indigenous organizations or causes. Proceeds can go toward scholarships, cultural programs, or community initiatives.

Remember, NAIDOC Week is about fostering understanding, respect, and reconciliation. Every effort counts! 🌿🖤💛❤️
